The important thing is not to know where you are going, to be open to accidents.
That’s what keeps it fun.
20 South Street
20 South Street was founded in 2010 by Julia Stubbs, a theatre director and experienced practitioner with a background in acting, new writing, classical texts, dramaturgy, devising, dialect and film knowledge.
I’ve always felt that the scene is something that happens in the space between the actors.
Julia’s process as a director has been greatly influenced by her work as an actor and through watching the productions of theatre companies such as Steppenwolf and Ex Machina, and so she works closely with actors to release the performer’s freedom on stage in order to create visceral, emotional characters.
Cinema is a matter of what’s in the frame and what’s out.
Short Film Directing
Julia began directing short films in 2020 and she is continuing to collaborate with emerging writers on creating new shorts, bringing the way she works as a theatre director into the production process.
