The important thing is not to know where you are going, to be open to accidents.
That’s what keeps it fun.
20 South Street
20 South Street was founded in 2010 by Julia Stubbs, a theatre director and experienced practitioner with a background in acting, new writing, classical texts, dramaturgy, devising, dialect and film knowledge.
I’ve always felt that the scene is something that happens in the space between the actors.
Julia’s process as a director has been greatly influenced by her work as an actor and through watching the productions of theatre companies such as Steppenwolf and Ex Machina, and so she works closely with actors to release the performer’s freedom on stage in order to create visceral, emotional characters.
… writing stories about a black and white perspective is boring. It’s the grey that’s interesting.
Working with Writers
As a director, Julia has had the great good fortune to work with a number of talented writers, either collaborating with them on a workshop or a rehearsed reading or on a full production.
